ABOUT ME

My name is Mieke. I am from the central coast of California. West coast pride! I first started writing poetry for classroom assignments my sophomore year of high school. Our school requires the sophomore class to participate in a poetry slam, and by a twist of fate, I got 2nd place! As we all know by now, poetry is for expression not competition and let me say I fell in love with the art. I started volunteering teaching children to read with Aspire Education; it's been a joy to watch them fall in love with story just as I have. I also started the Book Club at my school and joined and eventually plan to advise CHS's Poetry Club. I decided to start this blog to share more of myself and the art form that I love so much!
